Mirror's Antique Patina

Hi!

I have this mirror in my entrance porch which has all these beautiful details but the silver fake colour was not appealing to me any longer.
I decided to antique it with an easy patina and the ever so  useful spray paint!!
Before doing this, I covered the whole glass with plastic film, using a spatula to tuck it in underneath the edges.

After 2 coats of Krylon Ivory Cream it look like this:
After it was completely dried, I started the patina. I used Acrylic paint: raw umber, burnt siena and a cinnamon brown. I also grabbed a damp rag for the process

I mixed a TSP of each and a TBSP of water
I started painting in small portions, for as soon as I finished a portion I had to use my damp rag to clean off the paint, so it would stain the piece a bit and stay in the nooks and crannies of the moulding
Here, half with patina and half not yet
ready!

I also used the same patina and spray paint to revamp a similar silver photo frame ( I forgot t take the "before" photos, sorry!!)

"New" mirror now back to the entrance

How lovely and antique! I love it! Hope you like it too!

  3. Great finish! Just like the PB mirrors! I have an old gold mirror & a bottle of ivory paint waiting to do something like this. Hopefully I'll get around to it sometime this year. Thanks for the inspiration.
