I have a 3 year old daughter and one of the things that I enjoy doing for her are hair accessories, aren't they soo cute? Anything pretty, girly and easy to make is a favorite of mine. And I specially looove the ones made with korker ribbon, cuz they are oh so pretty and girly, funky and charming at the same time and SO EASY to make!
There are a handful of ways to make them, and I have adapted my own way to make it even easier for me!:0)
Here are the materials I used for this one:
- 3/8" Grosgain ribbon in my (your favorite colors - I recommend at least two different colors/patterns to make it stand out although you can use only one color for sure!!)
- 3/16 " wooden dowels or regular color pencils (wooden color if possible, or they might leak and stain your ribbon, it has happened to me..:0(.
They sell a bag of 10 wooden dowels at the dollar store for a buck.
-Candle
-wooden clothes pin
- needle and thread
- embroidery thread
-small piece of felt
- medium size foam ball cut in half
- glue gun
- alligator or barrete hair clip
What you' ll do:
. Gently heat the ends of your ribbon using a candle to prevent
it from fraying.
2. Secure one end of your ribbon at one end of the wooden dowel and wrap the ribbon around the wooden dowel (or wooden pencil) by twisting it. Secure the other end with another clothes pin
Make 5 of one color and 5 of the other color/pattern you picked. For a full and beautiful bow I use at least 20 pieces total.
Ht
BE CAREFUL WHEN GETTING THEM OUT IT IS REALLY HOT!
4. Wait for them to cool ( I know you cam hardly wait!!!) and gently unwrap the ribbon.
TA-DAH!!! NOW YOU HAVE KORKER RIBBONS!!! Cut each korker ribbon in same length pieces, depending of the length of the dowel you used . You shoud be able to get 3 smaller pieces out of one dowel.
5. Assemble them all on a flat surface and sort them in the order you want them to be in your final hair piece
6. In your foam ball insert a threaded needle ( a longer one makes your work easier) on the bottom and pull it on the other side until it almost completely out yet still firmly secured inside your foam ball.
7. lay the foam ball on a flat surface
8. Start inserting the ribbon in the needle, always on the center of it
10. When you finish doing this, hold your "star" of ribbon with ne hand and pull the needle and thread with the other hand , until the needle has come out of the foam balland the knot is secured well underneath the ribbons. Do 2 or 3 extra stitches through the center of your ribbons and secure with a final knot.
11. For extra security wrap a piece of embroidery therad around your whole piece, right on the center.
12. Cut a small round pieces of felt and with glue one on the bottom of you piece with fabric gule or hot glue gun.
There you have it, a cute korker hair clip for a lucky little girl!
