Oak Laminate Cabinet Make Over

Hi!
Something is keeping me very busy these days...decided to do a little "lipstick" (nothing structural) make over in my bathroom  and I must say, "just" painting, it is not just painting when you have a little one at home and it it's too muggy outside and oppressively hot inside the painting room..I sweat buckets just to prime it! And it is a very small bathroom.
Anyways, one of the things I wanted to change was my storage...I had this old 9-cubicle unit, very practical but not stylish enough for me...
My luck: I found this ugly but perfect cabinet on Kijiji for 30 bucks.
It is laminate, not real wood, but hey, with lots of primer I knew I could make it look old and pretty not just old ...and ugly.

So, I grabbed my material:

1. Kilzn Oil Primer (this is the BEST!)
2. My favouritte white paint, Behr Swiss Coffee
3. Painters tape
4. Sandpaper # 80, #100 and # 200  grit
5. Rags
6. Brushes and rollers
After taping, I used 2 coats of my fav fav primer. It makes it possible for a cheap laminate furniture look like real wood at the end, as the paint will stick really well to the laminate and one can distress galore.
I applied 2 coats of Swiss Coffee and sanded with # 200 sandpaper between coats. Then, lots of distressing over the edges. I used sandpaper #80 and 100 for this.

It looks amazingly smooth and "real"
The mess in between......
I also got some nice baskets to fill it  and it in no time it was ready to go into the bathroom (not painted yet)

THE BEST thing:
It fits as it was custom made for my little corner

Hard to see, but I painted the back a light grey, as my new walls will  be this colour

The hardware is from Home Depot...spray painted black
I love it and can not wait to show you the new bathroom, now in grey!

It is worth a try to paint it, it gives a new life to these ugly laminate pieces, so drab...
If you use a good primer it will turn out perfect!

Oh, KILZN OIL PRIMER is the best!!!! and do not worry, you can mix oil PRIMER with latex paint, no problem at all.
It will stick to the piece like anything!
Give it a try and let me know!!

And thanks for following me, I will gladly follow you back!
